Rulers: Burkina Faso

Traditional polities

Note: The bulk of this record concerns the Mossi states, of which the "imperial" premier one is sited at Wogodogo (Ouagadougou, the national capital) and is ruled by the moogo-naaba, the others being Yatenga, Tenkodogo, and - somewhat more loosely associated genealogically with the preceding - the cluster of states collectively known as Gurma (Gulma in Moore). The arrangements for interregna in these states are complicated, and in the absence of precise data are omitted.
